What is The Bored-Again Christian, anyway?

Is it music FOR Christians, ABOUT Christians, or BY Christians? Is it music with a healthy dose of “Jesus” in every verse? Is it intended to reach out to the heathens or preach to the choir? Is it art, evangelism, or entertainment? Will it attempt to offend me, convert me, or inspire me? Is it punny, funny or ironic? Will it make me burn my record collection or expand my library? And is it really all about the rock ‘n roll?

Well, yes and no.

The Impetus
Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. Nothing outside a man can make him ‘unclean’ by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a man that makes him ‘unclean.'”
Mark 7:14-15

“We do not need more people writing Christian books; what we need is more Christians writing good books.”
— C.S. Lewis

“To look at a work of art and then to make a judgment as to whether or not it is art, and whether or not it is Christian, is presumptuous. It is not something we can know in any conclusive way. We can know only if it speaks within our own hearts and leads us to living more deeply with Christ in God.”
— Madeleine L’Engle (1918-2007)

“You aren’t making Christianity cool, you’re making rock music worse.”
— Hank Hill, King of the Hill

The Testimony

“Seriously, thank you for putting this stuff out there for all to hear. I have just gotten so disillusioned with the music that I hear on mainstream Christian alternative radio. I always knew that there was more out there that fit into more of an art form than the mainstream stuff that you hear everywhere….and i’m always interested in hearing these incredible indie bands. So, thank you for making this stuff available in a more accessible way. This is amazing music!” — brad

“What you have done with BAC is incredible. I am extremely happy to have discovered the hard work that you have done. You have helped me revive my worship of our Lord, you helped to bring the Lord praise, you’ve been a minister to me. By introducing me to John Davis you did an amazing thing. After hearing him on your podcast, I checked out his site, and downloaded his demo cd. I actually had to pull my truck over, in town, because some of his lyrics hit me so hard. I was in the presence of the Lord for the first time in a long time. Thanks, you gave me that. ” — Cam

“Boring? Christian? No and yes. Bring your brain but check your ego. Heres a kickin’ indy music show that is provocative, thoughtful, and uplifting without being glib. From host Just Pete’s humorous mock-irreverent style, to new musical sounds ranging from indie-folk to emo-punk, The Bored-Again Christian is not what you e expecting but exactly what you are looking for.” — Jason

“I should explain a few things before I begin. I come from a devote Christian family. All of my family as well as my Mississippi friends still think I am a believer. I gave up believing the mythology about two years ago. I still go to church regularly out of fear of what others will think of (or might do to) me. Maybe it is ironic that I’m writing while listening to the excellent Christian music podcast Bored-Again Christian, which I would recommend to anyone.” — Mississippi Atheists
