Pretentious Pitchfork Predictions

February 8th, 2008 | by Pete |

One of the great surprises of our day is seeing who Pitchfork Magazine has tapped as the next great obscure artist to play the newly-annual Pitchfork Music Festival. in veritably, it is a who’s who of who?s and what?s—bands you don’t know yet, but Lollapalooza will be showcasing the next year and MTV will start playing later that fall.

In the past, the festival has featured artists like The New Pornographers, Spoon, Of Montreal, Danielson, Mastodon, Menomena, Voxtrot, and Iron & Wine. In addition to indie sweethearts, the festival tends to throw a bone to more mainstream artists done good, the likes of De La Soul, Sonic Youth and Stephen Malkmus (Pavement).

The game, of course, is to guess the next summer’s line-up. It’s a mix of ear to the grapevine, eyes on the blogs, and a heapin’ helpin’ of pure luck. So who will grace the stage of Chicago’s 2008 Pitchfork Music Festival? I have a few guesses already:

Dr. Dog
MGMT
WHY?
The Polyphonic Spree
The National
Hot Chip
Times New Viking
Bodies of Water
Okkervil River

Anxious to hear yours in the comments, indie nerds.
