‘Homespun Greeting Card Wisdom’ as Art

In his latest editorial involving a certain contemporary Christian group, contributor Nathan Martin over at Patrol Magazine summarizes pointedly what is at the heart of CCM that can be so discouraging:

This song dripped homespun greeting card wisdom with the slow countrified females spinning more cliches than a cross-stitch embroidered pillow as they manage to utilize less musical inventiveness than Friday night karaoke in your Uncle Jack’s basement. For a song that was on a station proclaiming its allegiance to God and Family, there was little to separate the lyrical content from the Shania/Twain/Hill/Underwood crooners of the world.
